MYCONCERN about Niall Ferguson's counterfactual history is its likely misuse (THES, April 4). Virtual history will be used to try and legitimise the revival of policy or political ideology that has failed in the past. Also virtual history is illogical. Many of the worlds explored by counterfactual historians will be histories in which the virtual historian would not have been born to write any history.
