The sensationalising of lesbian sexuality that June Purvis talks of (Letters, THES, February 15) is not helped by Martin Pugh who accuses suffragette Annie Kenney of leading a promiscuous lesbian lifestyle (Features, THES , January 25).
The Kenney papers, available for consultation in the archive collections of the University of East Anglia since 1993, do not bear this out.
The archive owners' trust in the research community has been undermined by this. Requests for access to the papers now have to be referred to Kenney's family.
