关于 Hirosaki University

Hirosaki University’s origins date back almost 140 years ago with the Aomori Teacher’s College. It became Hirosaki University as it is known today in 1949.

Hirosaki University offers two main study programmes: short-term and degree-seeking. The short-term programme is one or two semesters in length, and students can choose a variety of electives to learn about Japanese culture in both English and Japanese. There is also a mainstream Japanese curriculum for those with an advanced level of Japanese language proficiency.

There are six main faculties at Hirosaki: humanities and social sciences; education; medicine; health sciences; science and technology; and agriculture and life science. Across these faculties, courses include: cultural innovation, teacher training, occupational therapy, frontier materials chemistry and many more.

To study an undergraduate degree at Hirosaki, applicants must be foreign national without Japanese nationality, and must take an entrance examination before they can be admitted. Students will need an advanced level of Japanese language proficiency to take undergraduate classes as they are mostly taught in Japanese. Graduate students will need to take an entrance exam and an interview before being admitted as a student of Hirosaki.

The city of Hirosaki was originally built as a castle town by the Tsugaru Clan. The city is now known across Japan for its apple production, gaining the nickname, Apple Coloured Town.

Students at Hirosaki Univesity can enjoy a plethora of cultural social events at the university including the Neputa Festival, the Summer Festival and the Jamboree of International Students. For those wishing to explore local history, they can visit the Hirosaki Castle, Fujita Memorial Japanese Garden, and Iwaki Kogen Prefectural Natural Park.
