关于 University of Houston Clear Lake
The University of Houston - Clear Lake, is located on a 524-acre wildlife and nature preserve on the upper Gulf Coast of Texas. The spacious campus on the outskirts of Houston is just 20 minutes from Galveston Island. The campus is based in the heart of a high tech community and adjacent to the famous NASA Johnson Space Center.
The university offers more than 80 undergraduate and graduate degree programmes across its Schools of Education, Business, Science and Computer Engineering and Human Sciences and Humanities. There are two doctoral degree programmes offered in the School of Education.
The University of Houston - Clear Lake was established by the State of Texas in 1974 to address the need for a second University of Houston campus to provide upper-level and graduate degree programmes. The Bayou Building was the first to be constructed on the new campus.
UHCL partnered with the city of Pearland in 2009 to create the new UHCL Pearland Campus and classes there began at the start of the 2010 academic year. The new satellite campus was established to provide access to higher education for students in the Pearland area. In 2011, UHCL was granted state approval to expand the university downwards and has offered freshman and sophomore level courses since 2014.
A large number of UHCL students are Texas residents and students from local community colleges make up more than 80 per cent of the university’s undergraduate student body. UHCL has a diverse student population, with a large proportion of students identifying as Hispanic, African-American, Asian-American and Native-American.
UHCL has a young official mascot named Hunter the Hawk. The official name of the university’s new mascot was announced during the 2016 annual "I Heart UHCL" festivities, the culmination of a long search for the right mascot.
