LIU Brooklyn

LIU Brooklyn is a liberal arts and research institution based in Brooklyn, New York City. LIU Brooklyn is one of the main campuses of the private Long Island University system. All of the campuses within the Long Island University system rank as one unified institution in the THE/WSJ US Rankings. The university was founded in 1926, and has grown from a first class of 312 students to a total enrolment of over 11,000 today.

There are a total of 250 academic programmes offered at LIU, at the College of Arts and Sciences and five schools ranging from Business to Nursing. In 2016 the School of Healthcare Professions at LIU was ranked first in the nation for Healthcare major salaries by Payscale.

Since 2010 LIU has offered an M.F.A. in writing and producing for television. Students take classes at the 305,000-square-foot Hollywood-style production facility at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, and the course itself was created by veteran Emmy winning screenwriter Norman Steinberg.

LIU Global is a one-of-its-kind undergraduate degree, offering students a truly immersive experience offering eight semesters in eight different countries and integrating travel and international experience into the curriculum itself. LIU Global has campuses in Australia, Costa Rica, China, Europe and Thailand, while students will compete a final thesis based in New York.

While geographically Brooklyn is situated on Long Island, it is also one of the five boroughs of New York and intrinsically tied to the city. From campus travelling across the Manhattan bridge can take a student to downtown Manhattan in fifteen minutes by car, and for public transport the Atlantic Terminal is located three blocks away.

Athletics teams at LIU compete in the university colours of black and white, under the Blackbirds name. The university is a member of the NCAA Division I, and in total there are five men’s and twelve women’s programmes, with indoor and outdoor track and field offered to both genders.
