Times Higher Education’s second Africa Universities Summit will take place at the University of Ghana in Accra from 27 to 29 April 2016.

The conference will explore globalisation and policy directions for African higher education and hear from distinguished speakers including Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, vice-president of the republic of Ghana; Joanna Newman, vice-principal, international, at the UK’s King’s College London; Abel Idowu Olayinka, vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan in Nigeria; John Latham, vice-chancellor of Coventry University in the UK; and Marcia Grant, provost of Ashesi University in Ghana.

Other confirmed speakers include Hanne Adriansen, associate professor in the department of education at Denmark's Aarhus University; Kevin Andrews, chief academic officer at UNICAF scholarship programme; and Rob Paddock, founder and chief of education of online learning platform Get Smarter.

The event will also explore how to educate Africa’s increasing number of young people and include discussions on public and private universities, funding and fees, leadership and governance, internationalisation and intra-continental staff movement.

A snapshot Africa University Ranking, drawn from data in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, will officially launch at the summit on 29 April and will be followed by a rankings masterclass with rankings editor Phil Baty.

The inaugural THE African Universities Summit, which included the release of a snapshot ranking of the top 30 African universities, was held at the University of Johannesburg, South Africa, in July 2015.
