Helen Wallace of Greenpeace (THES, June 28) suggests that we take action on the basis of perceptions of problems rather than researched problems. The list of synthetic chemicals which might be shown to be endocrine modulators is very large, as was indicated at by a recent London conference on the topic.
Greenpeace is using endocrine modulation as its latest weapon in its battle against PVC and suggests that we in the industry would willingly sacrifice our immune systems and reproductive powers in the cause of profit.
We are as careful for our health as we are for the health of our customers and the public. Our activities and the uses to which our products are put are the subject of intensive and expensive regulations.
