Pensions: preempt the Treasury

四月 21, 2000

Andrew Oswald failed to mention in his article the USS's stinginess in its cost-of-living increases. It is enhancing pensions this year by 2.1 per cent, less than academics' pay settlement is likely to be. As I became a USS pensioner only last August, my increase is 1.4 per cent, offering a monthly net sum that does not even cover my council tax rise. Thus, my pension is already seriously eroded. On top of all the other stresses, I am regretting taking early retirement.
