More than 30 institutions from 13 territories in running for inaugural awards

二月 20, 2019

More than 30 institutions from 13 territories have made the shortlist for Times Higher Education’s first awards ceremony celebrating the achievement of Asian universities.

Nearly 80 universities from 21 countries or regions entered the inaugural THE Awards Asia. The winners will be announced on 1 May during the THE Asia Universities Summit in Abu Dhabi.

The event will build on the success of THE’s long-running UK-focused awards – dubbed the “Oscars of higher education”.

Universities have been nominated across five categories: Leadership and Management Team of the Year; International Strategy of the Year; Teaching and Learning Strategy of the Year; Outstanding Support for Students; and Technological Innovation of the Year.

John Gill, editor of THE, said: “We are absolutely delighted to be launching the inaugural THE Awards Asia with such a strong set of shortlists, highlighting the exceptional achievements of universities from across the Asian continent.

“Universities operate in a wide range of contexts and environments, with varied goals and missions, but whatever their situation, the institutions nominated for these awards are proving what extraordinary, transformational roles universities play.”

Four universities picked up two nominations each: India’s O.P. Jindal Global University, China’s Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech), Malaysia’s Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) and South Korea’s Yonsei University.

The awards ceremony will take place during a gala dinner at the Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The Asia Universities Summit will be held at Khalifa University between 30 April and 2 May.
