又过了与众不同的一年，被誉为“高等教育界奥斯卡奖”的泰晤士高等教育大奖（Times Higher Education Awards）已经公布了2021年的入围名单。
有78所高等教育机构及团队参与了20个类别的奖项角逐。入围名单是从创纪录的近600个参赛申请中选出的。今年也是本奖设立17年以来，爱尔兰的高校首次得以与英国高校竞争。
今年的泰晤士高等教育大奖将表彰2019/20学年的高等教育界成就，而这一年全球新冠大流行迫使各地校园关闭。与以往一样，这些奖项全方位涵盖了各项大学活动，包括了从一线员工到各级领导与管理层的学术和专业服务。
今年的入围名单中，诺丁汉大学和雷丁大学表现最为突出，各有5次提名，而纽卡斯尔大学和索尔福德大学均获得4次提名。以下5所大学上演了帽子戏法，包括安格利亚鲁斯金大学、谢菲尔德哈莱姆大学、中央兰开夏大学、圣安德鲁斯大学以及利物浦热带医学院。
阿斯顿大学、卡迪夫城市大学、伦敦卫生与热带医学院、开放大学、桑德兰大学以及约克大学将角逐令人梦寐以求的“年度大学奖”。
泰晤士高等教育杂志编辑约翰·吉尔（John Gill）表示，今年的奖项将“反映出疫情大流行必经的动荡和创新时期”，但创纪录的参赛者标志着“英国和爱尔兰高校的辉煌”。
吉尔先生说：“有包括机构、团队和个人在内的600个参赛者获得提名，能够进入今年的入围名单确实是一项了不起的成就。”
“当我们11月为‘高等教育界奥斯卡奖’欢聚一堂时，非常期待共同庆祝大学教职工在异常艰难的情况下做出的这些令人难以置信的行动。”
本年度泰晤士高等教育大奖打破的另一个传统是，今年的奖项将于11月25日在新的地点——伦敦大都会希尔顿酒店举行。这个大奖将在为期两天的THE Campus Live UK&IE大会后举行，该活动也在同一地点举办。
