Cutting-edge hospitality education: Modul University Vienna together with New York City College of Technology & The Hong Kong Polytechnic University announce unique collaboration in tourism studies
Modul University Vienna and New York City College of Technology have a new cooperation that adds a unique study abroad experience to the existing bachelor's degree program in Tourism, Hotel Management and Operations. The 3-year BBA in Tourism, Hospitality and Management program now offers an opportunity to complete 2 years in Hong Kong, extending the overall program length to 4 years, across two campuses in two outstanding cities.
Gain 2 valuable degrees leveraging Modul's extensive expertise in Vienna's tourism sector and benefiting from the globally acclaimed program at Hong Kong Polytechnic University's School of Hotel and Tourism Management, recognized as the best program worldwide for Hospitality and Tourism Management by the Shanghai Ranking.
Under the cooperation, students will spend their first year of study at Modul University Vienna, where they will first gain a solid knowledge base in business administration, accounting and marketing. Afterwards, they have the opportunity to spend a year abroad at New York City College of Technology in Brooklyn as part of a guaranteed mobility program. Here they benefit in particular from the expertise of the partner university's Hospitality Management Department and deepen their knowledge in courses such as Culinary Arts, Food and Beverage Management, Facilities Design and Property Management, Hospitality Workforce Management and Perspectives in Hospitality Management.
“Through the expertise of the professors at both institutions, they gain essential skills and knowledge for a successful career in the international hospitality industry," explains Karen Goodlad, Associate Professor and Chairperson of the Hospitality Management Department at New York City College of Technology.
The background to the cooperation with The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is a mutual recognition of the studies, which enables students to obtain two degrees in the field of hospitality and tourism in four years. The program will allow participants to study in both Vienna and Hong Kong to experience the diversity of the tourism and hospitality industry in different cultures.
An agreement on the mutual recognition of parts of the other study programme between the School of Hotel and Tourism Management (SHTM) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and the School of Tourism and Service Management of the Modul University Vienna makes this offer possible. The duration of study is only four years instead of seven, with two years at the home university and two years at the host university. At the beginning of their studies, students receive the security of a stay abroad at the other university and then a degree from each institution.
"The School of Hotel and Tourism Management at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is the leader in tourism and hospitality in Asia, leading almost all major professional rankings worldwide. We are proud to be part of this international partnership and to accompany our students on their way to becoming successful global leaders," says Modul University Vienna Rector and Managing Director, Karl Wöber.
