Two references to Edward John Thompson (1886-1946) in my review of his biography by Mary Lago ("Forgotten role in Raj quartet", THES , November 16) were overzealously edited to become references to his son, E. P. Thompson (1924-93). Lago consistently ignores works by Indian scholars on E. J. Thompson. It was E. J., not E. P., who published a biography of Tagore.
These errors reinforce the point that E. J. Thompson is largely forgotten except as the influential father of his even more influential son, E. P.
