Letter: Get real on RAE 4

三月 1, 2002

Graham Gibbs's suggestion that researchers should make "pedagogic impact statements" to show how their proposals benefit undergraduate students fills me with foreboding ("Real cost of RAE cuts", THES , February 22).

There are already enough institutional hoops to jump through to get time to do quality research. Gibbs also completely ignores the considerable impact that research has on teaching at postgraduate level.

If my institution were to ask me for a statement, it would have to be "have a little bit of faith".
