About Weber State University

Weber State University is a public institution in northern Utah. Founded by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1889, the university awarded its first four-year degrees in 1964 and has been known by its current name since 1991. Weber State predominantly runs undergraduate courses. More than half of its students are part-time.

As well as its main 525-acre campus near Ogden, 30 miles north of Salt Lake City, Utah’s capital and easily its largest and most diverse city, Weber State has a presence in several towns across the state. Along with Park City and Salt Lake, Ogden is one of the host cities of the annual Sundance Film Festival, the largest independent film festival in the country.

Salt Lake enjoys stunning views of the snow-topped Wasatch Mountains on one side and the Great Salt Lake on the other. Though easily the largest metropolitan area in the region, it is easy to escape the city for ski slopes, mountain trails, deep canyons and wildlife in a matter of minutes. The city’s main sports teams are the Utah Jazz (basketball) and Real Salt Lake, whose first Major League Soccer season was in 2005.

Weber State alumni include former US secretary of the treasury and US ambassador to NATO David M. Kennedy, who held office under President Nixon, and Damian Lillard, the Portland Trail Blazers point guard who made his first All-Star game appearance within two years of being drafted following a successful college basketball career for the Weber State Wildcats.
