About University of Uyo
University of Uyo was founded as a teachers college in 1983. It changed it name a few times including Advanced Training College, College of Education affiliated to the University of Port Harcourt and University of Cross River State before taking on its current identity as a Federal university in 1991.
It is based in Oyo the capital of the state of Akwa Ikbom. The main campus, a 1443 hectare site. three miles from the city centre and accommodates central administration, the postgraduate school, the faculties of natural and applied science, and agriculture as well as the centre for energy and environmental sustainability research.
The town campus is where the faculties of arts, education, social science and pharmacy are located while the annexe campus hosts business administration, law, environmental studies and general studies. Preparatory, pre-degree and special courses are taught at the Ime Umana campus while the college of health sciences is based at the Teaching Hospital, six miles from the main campus.
Facilities available to students include a 1,050-bed hostel with 50 places for disabled students and a new faculty of arts block.
