About Almaaqal University
Almaaqal University is a private university established in 2020 by ministerial order. It is based in the Al-Maqal district of Basra, the historic seaport and business centre of Southern Iraq.
The university offers five-year degrees in dentistry and pharmacy, along with four-year courses in civil engineering, control computer engineering, law, English language and literature, media and physical education and sports science. Further courses are planned in cybersecurity engineering, artificial intelligence engineering, power mechanics, oil and gas economics, and clinical psychology.
The chief research focuses are sustainability, business and petroleum. In 2023 it hosted its first conference on renewable and sustainable energy. Partnerships were signed in 2023 with the American University, Beirut and UNITEN, the Malaysian University for Energy.
