About Universidade Estadual Paulista (Unesp)
São Paulo State University (UNESP), founded in 1976, is one of Brazil’s largest public universities with 24 campuses throughout the State of São Paulo.
Its multi-campus model allows UNESP to offer a varied academic programme with diverse activities. As one of Brazil’s foremost research universities, it cites subject strengths in health, engineering, communications, humanities, arts, social sciences and theoretical sciences.
UNESP is international recognised for the quality of its research, teaching and its initiatives to promote cultural diversity in the classroom. Its ethos emphasises critical thinking, humanist principles, sustainability, technological innovation and democratic participation in equal measures.
The university’s various campuses are also home to a diverse range of contemporary artworks, historical artefacts, farms, museums and a zoo, as well as hospitals and libraries.
São Paulo is Brazil’s wealthiest and most populous State, vibrant and cosmopolitan. Its capital, the city of São Paulo, is the country’s financial and cultural centre, home to a host of iconic architecture and events such as the São Paulo Art Biennial and the Brazilian Grand Prix. The city also hosts the largest LGBT Pride Festival in the world.
