About Michigan Technological University
Located in the heart of Copper County, once the greatest producer of the metal in the world, Michigan Tech started life in 1885 as a mining school. It achieved university status in 1964. It has a 925-acre campus and a 4,000-acre forestry research centre in Alberta.
The university provides courses across engineering, business and economics, forest resources and environmental sciences, the arts and technology.
There are more than 220 student organisations across sports clubs, music and the fine arts. The university also has a strong network of sororities and fraternities that students can join.
Michigan Tech's athletic teams are nicknamed the Huskies and regularly compete in the NCAA Division II Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Teams include football, hockey, volleyball and Nordic skiing.
The university also publishes The Daily Bull, a daily satirical entertainment newspaper which prints campus and world news and The Michigan Tech Lode, an award-winning weekly student newspaper.
