About Njala University
Njala University is located in Njala, 125 miles east of capital city Freetown.
It can trace its roots back to the creation of Njala Agriculture Experimental Station in 1910.It then acquired university status in 1964, and in 1967 was incorporated into the University of Sierra Leone.
Students can study across a range of schools including education, community health, social sciences, agriculture, environmental sciences and technology, forestry, medicine and, in 2023 basic sciences and basic education, and veterinary medicine.
There is also a campus at Bo, 36 miles south-east, and a new facility established in 2023 at the former Bonthe Technical College site.
Graduate courses include a distance-taught MBA "carefully designed to address the unique challenges and opportunities of the African business environment".
Recent projects include the Bebi programme for forested areas, under which 10,000 stoves were distributed to households, and the Agricultural Value Chain Development Project, with the planting of 540,000 palm seedlings.
