About Université de Kisangani
Université de Kisangani was founded as the Free University of the Congo by protestant missionaries in 1963. It is regarded as one of the Congo’s three main universities.
It was incorporated into the New University of Zaire in 1971 and became autonomous in 1981.
It is located on a 132-hectare site a mile outside the centre of Kisangani, capital of Tshopo province around 100 miles north of the Congo River.
Students can study across faculties of arts and humanities, law, economics and management, social science policy and administration, science, psychology and education, medicine, pharmacy, public health and nutrition.
Notable research centres include the Centre de Surveillance de la Biodiversite, created in 2011 to make use of its equatorial forest location. International links include partnership with the University of Hasselt to develop institutional structures.
