About University of Hawai’i at Mānoa

The University of Hawai'i at Mānoa is the flagship campus of the University of Hawai'i System, founded in 1907.

The beautiful Mānoa Valley is an affluent area located just outside downtown Honolulu, on the island of Oʻahu. According to The Chronicle of Higher Education, it is also the most diverse university in terms of both students and faculty.

Today, the university is 320 acres and consists of four colleges of arts and sciences: arts and humanities, languages, literatures and linguistics, natural sciences and social sciences.

The library of UH Mānoa, is one of the largest academic libraries in the United States and provides students access to 3.4 million volumes, 50,000 journals, and thousands of digital documents.

The university offers over 50 distance learning courses, using technology instead of face-to-face teaching, which replaces either all or a portion of class instruction. Students interact with their instructors and peers from a variety of locations to develop their studies.

UH Mānoa student organisations cover a range of academic topics, career interests, recreational activities, and lifestyles. They are dedicated to a range of themes from social and political issues to arts & culture, community service, academic, and other activities.

The university has a large sports budget and is the only Hawai'i university to compete in NCAA Division I. It competes in the Mountain West Conference for football and the Big West Conference for the majority of their other sports.

Notable alumni include Neil Abercrombie, former governor of Hawai'i, Robyn Ah Mow-Santos, a USA Volleyball Team member and former Olympian, and Daniel Akaka, a former US Senator.
