In the art and design: history, practice and theory unit of assessment, the University of Oxford came top with a GPA of 3.85, a big jump from 2014, when it ranked joint 36th with a GPA of 2.92. Another big mover was Birkbeck, University of London, which climbed from 38th place to fourth with a GPA of 3.62, up from 2.91.
Improvements in other universities’ scores meant that the institution that ranked first in 2014 – the University of Reading – dropped to joint 10th this time despite marginally improving its own GPA, from 3.51 to 3.55.
At a national level the Art and Design: History, Practice and Theory UoA has a GPA of 3.12, with 37 per cent of its submission rated 4*. 2607.19 FTE staff were submitted to this UoA.
