The English language and literature unit of assessment table was led by Newcastle University with a GPA of 3.77.
In second was Birkbeck, University of London, with the University of Bedfordshire, the University of Leeds and the University of Edinburgh making up the rest of the top five.
The University of Oxford leads the way on research power and market share on account of its large submission size: 116 FTE staff, compared with Newcastle’s 47 and Bedfordshire’s seven.
At a national level the English Language and Literature UoA has a GPA of 3.34, with 48 per cent of its submission rated 4*. 2671.31 FTE staff were submitted to this UoA.
