About Universitas Negeri Surabaya
Universitas Negeri Surabaya was originally established in 1950 as the Institute of Teacher Training and Education Surabaya. In 1999 the institute was granted full university status and became Universitas Negeri Surabaya.
As its name suggests, the university is located in Surabaya, a city on the Indonesian island of Java.
The university is divided into seven faculties: the faculty of science education, faculty of language and art, faculty of mathematics and natural sciences, faculty of social sciences and law, faculty of engineering, faculty of sports science, and the faculty of economics and business. Each faculty is subdivided into different departments offering a variety of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
The university is split into two campuses: Lidah Wetan Campus, which is home to three faculties, and Ketintang Campus, which houses the remaining four.
The Language Centre has been an important part of the university since the 1970s. It offers language courses in English, German, Japanese, Mandarin, Arabic, French, and Indonesian for foreign speakers.
The Institute for Research and Community Service was founded in 2012 in order to facilitate the university’s various research projects. The institute is committed to scientific and technological research, which is carried out at several centres of study such as the Centre for Research and Strengthening Innovation and the Centre for Arts and Culture Studies.
