About Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta
Universitas Muhammadiyah Surakarta was officially established in October 1981 as one of the higher education institutions under the Muhammadiyah organisation. However, it has a history that dates back to the 1950s when it was the Faculty of Education for the Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta Branch Surakarta.
The university is located in Surakarta, a city in Central Java, Indonesia.
Academically, the university is organised into 12 faculties: Faculty of Communication and Information, Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Economics and Business, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Geography, Faculty of Health Sciences, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Pharmacy, Faculty of Psychology, and the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education. Each faculty is divided into different departments which offer a wide range of bachelor and master’s degree programmes.
Outside the classroom, the university offers diverse array of extracurricular activities. There are a number of student clubs on offer to suit all interests such as the debating society, taekwondo, marching band, volleyball, basketball, badminton and tennis.
The university has a range of research centres including the Centre for Development of Business and Management, the Centre for Islamic Psychology Studies, the Centre for Environmental Studies, and the Centre for the Study of Culture and Social Change.
