About Southwest Petroleum University
Southwest Petroleum University was originally established in 1958 as the Sichuan Petroleum Institute. In 1970 it was renamed Southwest Petroleum Institute and in 2005 it was granted full university status and became Southwest Petroleum University. The university is the second petroleum university in the People’s Republic of China.
The university is located in Chengdu City, the capital of the Sichuan Province in southwestern China.
Education at the university is organised into eight subject areas: science, engineering, management, economics, arts, law, education and artistics.
There are 16 schools within the university, which include the School of Oil and Natural Gas Engineering, the School of Geosciences and Technology, and the School of Economics and Management. Each school offers a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
The university has developed partnerships with higher education institutions around the world to facilitate academic and scientific exchanges. These partnerships are with institutions from countries including Russia, Germany, the US, the UK, France, Canada and Japan.
Throughout the year the university carries out research into the petroleum and natural gas industry.
