About Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research

Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) has a history that dates back to 1984 when its predecessor the Engineering College was established. Then in 1989 Sree Balaji Dental College and Hospital was founded. In 2002 the college was granted university status and became Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research. A year later the Bharath Institute of Science and Technology was established.

The university operates across six campuses located in Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry, South India. The region of Tamil Nadu has a rich and extensive history. The Tamil Nadu of today was formed in 1956 after the reorganisation of Indian states. The state is known for its numerous historical buildings, religious temples, three World Heritage sites, beautifuk beaches and bustling cities.

Academically the university is divided into six schools, namely architecture, dentistry, engineering and technology, medicine, nursing, and physiotherapy. Each school offers courses at both undergraduate and graduate level.

Since 2003 the university has engaged in a range of research activities. It boasts state-of-the-art facilities and fully equipped laboratories that are available for both students and staff. The university is committed to producing innovative research in order to develop knowledge and to educate the community.

The university’s academic and research excellence has been recognised in recent years. In 2014 the World Education Congress awarded it the "Best Private University of the Year" and in the same year the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India declared it the "Best Multi Stream University".
