About Concordia University-Texas

Concordia University-Texas is a private liberal arts institution just north east of Austin city centre.

Austin, the relaxed state capital, is largely celebrated for its art and music scene. Also popular among writers and cyclists, the fast-growing city’s locals are keen to retain its small-town vibe despite recent population growth driven by technology.

Founded in 1926, CU Texas was initially a high school, then a junior college and then a university from 1995. It began admitting women in 1955. Despite its Lutheran ethos, it is open to prospective students from all religions and denominations.

15 miles from Austin city centre, its new 389-acre main campus was opened in 2008, enabling more student housing, greater library and study facilities, a 250-acre nature reserve, and an ultramodern softball field which means that the university team no longer has to use external facilities.

CU Texas has additional campuses in central Austin, Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio. Its Dallas-Fort Worth presence focuses on accelerated and master’s courses. Its central Austin site runs two master’s programmes, in education and business administration, as does its San Antonio campus.

San Antonio is a vibrant city whose landmarks include the Alamo, the iconic site of a historic 1836 battle between Mexico and the Republic of Texas, the River Walk and HemisFair Park.

CU Texas’ 26 undergraduate courses include behavioural sciences, kinesiology, chemistry, communication, music, political science, environmental science and conservation, and computer science. It also has more than 15 online degree programmes.

CU Texas was previously known as Lutheran Concordia College of Texas, Concordia Lutheran College and Concordia University at Austin.
