About Mount Marty University
Mount Marty College is a liberal arts college in the Catholic faith. It aims to prepare students for life and work while following the core Benedictine values of community, hospitality, lifelong learning, awareness of God and service.
The college was founded by the Sisters of the Sacred Heart in 1936.
There are six departments at Mount Marty: Anaesthesia, Social Sciences, Nursing, Education, Natural Sciences and Arts and Humanities.
The college’s main campus is in Yankton, South Dakota, a small city dotted with parks, boulevards and hiking trails. Yankton offers plenty of opportunities to find work experience or employment in areas including electronics, manufacturing and healthcare. The campus itself is an 80-acre hilltop by the Missouri River with a mix of old and new architecture.
Throughout the year, the Student Activities Office runs events, from small socials such as bowling and film nights to big affairs like Homecoming week, where students get free pizza. Yankton is a national centre for archery, and students can take up the sport for the first time at the college’s national archery centre.
The college has two other locations in South Dakota: Watertown and Sioux Falls.
Mount Marty’s athletic teams, the Lancers, play seven men’s and eight women’s sports, along with two coeducation sports: club trap shooting and club archery.
The campus ministry team organises Bible study, spirituality groups and even missions. Mass takes place daily in the campus chapel.
