Eastern University

Eastern University is an interdenominational Christian university, the main campus of which is situated near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in the town of St Davids.

The St Davids campus has its own observatory and planetarium. Students can live in one of eight residence halls, and keep fit in the gymnasium, tennis courts, swimming pool, or sports fields. Clubs and societies at the university cover a broad range of interests, such as spoken word, Habitat for Humanity, Model United Nations and Ultimate Frisbee.

Four graduate campuses are located outside of St Davids. The university’s Harrisburg and Philadelphia sites both offer graduate programmes, while the university seminary in Palmer, West Virginia offers a master of divinity courses. There is also a site in Rwanda, Africa which offers graduate programmes in organisational leadership and international development.

The Palmer Seminary was the first part of the university to be opened in 1925. It expanded to open a second location, called the Eastern Baptist College, which moved to Pennsylvania in 1952. In 2001 it became a university and took on its current name.

There are around 90 programmes on offer at Eastern University. It has five colleges: the College of Business and Leadership, the College of Education, the College of Health and Social Sciences, the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Theology and Ministry

Eastern University seeks to educate students for productive lives in keeping with Christian faith. Each Friday a campus gathering called Windows on the World takes place. In these forums, students and faculty reflect on the university motto of “The Whole Gospel for the Whole World” in reference to inspiring figures and current events.
