About DeSales University
DeSales University is a Catholic liberal arts higher level institution in Center Valley, US. It is named after Saint Francis de Sales, a French Christian humanist with Jesuit education born in 1567. The university prizes especially one of his sayings -“Let us be what we are and be that well, in order to bring honor to the Master Craftsman whose handiwork we are.” Before 2001, the university was called Allentown College of St. Francis de Sales.
DeSales offers 40 bachelor’s degrees, six master’s degree programmes and two doctorate programmes.
The university’s athletics teams compete in 16 sports in the NCAA Division III, within the Freedom Conference of the Middle Atlantic Conferences. Men's team sports include: baseball, basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, tennis, and track, and women's sports are: basketball, cross country, field hockey, soccer, softball, track and volleyball. In 2010 and 2011 men’s track and field became MAC champions in outdoor track and field. In 2009 and 2010 DeSales Men’s Basketball won the MAC Freedom Conference tournaments and in 2009 they made it into the Elite 8 of NCAA Tournament’s Division III.
Some of DeSales’s notable alumni include true crime author Katherine Ramsland, federal judge Joseph F. Leeson Jr, former Nickelodeon host Steven Burns, actress Dee Roscioli who acted in the Wicked musical production on Broadway, professor, author and lecturer Peter Augustine Lawler, who also served on President Bush’s Council on Bioethics.
