About Oklahoma Christian University
Oklahoma Christian University was first established in 1950, as a two-year college. In the 1990’s the college was accredited and expanded into a fully-fledged university and exists today as a private liberal arts college still in the Christian tradition, affiliated with the Churches of Christ.
OCU is primarily based on a 200-acre campus in Oklahoma City, the state capital of Oklahoma. This campus is responsible for housing the majority of OCU’s students, and the university provides both apartments and residential halls, most of which are gender-specific. As well as this, some housing for married students is also available, in keeping with the university’s Christian traditions. Dining facilities are also flexible and extensive.
The university has five academic colleges into which its degree programmes are arranged. These consist of the College of Business administration, the College of Liberal Arts, the College of Natural and Health Sciences, the College of Biblical Studies and the College of Engineering and Computer Science. The university offers around 20 different undergraduate programmes across these colleges, along with a smaller number of graduate programmes offering master’s in subjects such as divinity, accountancy and business administration. Pre-professional programmes are also available at OCU.
In terms of recreational activities, the university offers a number of Christian-oriented “social service clubs” that involve student activities designed to enhance the spiritual lives of students on campus.
Some famous alumni of Oklahoma Christian University include the actor Jim Beaver, and the Republican Congressman Dan Branch.
