About CUNY Queens College

Established in 1937, CUNY Queens College is a prestigious public university located in one of US’s most ethnically diverse county, Queens. Its students come from over 150 countries. The college is part of The City University of New York (CUNY) - the largest urban public higher level institution in the US, famous for its ethically diverse student body.

Queens College’s academic programmes are organised across four areas: Arts and Humanities, Mathematics and the Natural Sciences, Social Sciences and Education. The degrees range from Chinese and classics to business administration, photonics and risk management.

Its 80 acre campus, lined with trees and filled with grass, was included in Princeton Review’s list of US and Canada’s green, most environmentally responsible colleges. There are over 100 student clubs you can join on campus, ranging from fencing and environmental science to theatre and martial arts. Queens’ athletics team is the only CUNY team to take part in NCAA Division II. You will also be exposed to a lot of art at Queens through The Kupferberg Center for the Visual and Performing Arts, the Godwin-Ternbach Museum, the Queens College Art Center, and the Louis Armstrong House Museum. In addition, the college’s Evening Reading Series constantly bring international high calibre writers to read on campus.

The university’s centres and institutes do research and advocacy work concerning cancer, pollution, and racism.

Notable alumni include Paul Simon - songwriter, singer, musician and member of the band Simon & Garfunkel, Oscar winning actor Adrien Brody, sports executive Donna Orender, actor Jerry Seinfeld, novelist Susan Isaacs, social activist, author and documentary filmmaker Toni Cade Bambara, comedian Joy Behar, singer Carole King, biochemist and first African American woman to be awarded a PhD in chemistry Marie Maynard Daly, judge Sylvia Pressler, psychologist Stanley Milgram, Chinese businessman and philanthropist Charles Wang and basketball coach Norm Roberts.
