About Drew University

Drew University is a liberal arts university formed of the College of Liberal Arts, the Drew Theological School and the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies. Drew was founded in 1867 as a seminary. It is placed on a wooded 186-acre campus in Madison, New Jersey, near New York City.

The College of Liberal Arts offers BA degrees in 30 areas such as anthropology, art, business, economics, computer science, English, environmental studies and sustainability, German studies, international relations, neuroscience, music, physics, pan-African studies, theatre arts, psychology, Spanish, women’s and gender studies and others. The Theological and Caspersen Schools teach MA and PhD programmes.

In addition to the main academic programme, students can work with the Charles A. Dana Research Institute for Scientists Emeriti (RISE), home of 2015 Nobel Prize Winner for Medicine and Drew Fellow William Campbell, the Drew Summer Science Institute, the Center for Civic Engagement, or do a semester at the Wall Street, the United Nations, Contemporary Art and in Communications and Media in New York City, or internationally.

The 186-acre wooded campus 95 per cent of students live on campus. The university has its own Centre on Religion, Culture and Conflict, Holocaust and Genocide Study, History, as well as a Shakespeare Theatre, an independent theatre. Drew also organises talks by top politicians, journalists and public figures during the academic year. Madison has a population of 16,000 and is situated 30 miles west of Midtown Manhattan.  Drew is also located close to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge, the Jersey Shore, Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, and Pocono Mountains’ ski resorts.
