About Becker College
Becker College, based in central Massachusetts, has campuses in both Worcester and Leicester. A free shuttle service provides students with affordable travel, which enables them to move easily between campuses.
With roots tracing back to the union of two Massachusetts educational institutions—one founded in 1784 and the other in 1887.
There are more than 40 undergraduate degree programmes, which include: nursing, veterinary science, video game design as well as other development programmes.
The Massachusetts Digital Games Institute (MassDiGI) is a statewide centre established in 2011 at Becker College. MassDiGI is the result of creative collaboration among academia, industry and government, and aims to see the growth of the game industry and innovation economy.
There are several organisations on campus, which include: Campus Activities Board, Game Development Club, Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA), Dance Team, Drama Club, Mazunte Turtle Project Club, Music Club, National Student Nurses Association, and the Ski/Snowboard Club.
Becker College students currently compete in the Division III level of the NCAA. The soccer, tennis, field hockey, golf, basketball, baseball, volleyball and softball teams all also complete in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC).
Becker College is less than an hour's drive from Boston, three hours from New York City, and 70 miles or less from three major international airports, making it perfect for students wanting to explore further afield.
Interestingly, the first perfect game ball in Major League Baseball history was thrown in 1880 by Lee Richmond on a field, which is now part of the Becker College campus. On the site, there’s a monument of the Worcester Agricultural Fairgrounds where Richmond threw his perfect game.
Notable alumni include Franklin M. Loew, veterinarian, animal ethicist, former president of Becker College, Elliott P. Joslin, pioneer in the clinical use of insulin, and Thomas Hill, former president of Harvard University.
