About Northeastern University, China
China’s Northeastern University (NEU) is one of the country’s national key state universities, and is part of China’s 211 and 985 educational development projects.
The university was founded in 1923 and has played an important role in the country’s history since then. Students and staff were part of the December 9th Movement protesting Japanese occupation of China. NEU was also the site of China’s first analogue computer, CT scan and super steel.
China’s first Science Park was established at NEU. The park seeks innovations in technical fields through collaboration with other universities. NEUsoft, a multinational software engineering service, was founded at the science park.
The university is a complex, large-scale system with many schools and faculties. They range from the School of Mechanical Engineering and Automation to the School of Marxism.
A policy of opening up to the world has been in place at NEU for several years. The university has developed long-term cooperative agreements with almost 200 institutions in 34 countries. Over 1,000 students from around the globe come to study at NEU each year, representing more than 70 countries. In exchange, around 500 NEU students go abroad to study.
NEU is located in Shenyang, the largest city in the northeast of China. It is home to one of the two royal palaces still standing in China: the Mukden Palace. As the transport hub of the North, Shenyang offers students the chance to explore some of China’s most remote and beautiful scenery.
