About Kokugakuin University

Kokugakuin University is a private university mostly based on Tokyo's Shibuya district.

It began as the Office of Japanese Classics Research, as an organisation to further explore Shinto, the traditional religion of Japan. It then became a university under Japan's current university system in 1948.

The university provides courses on Shinto study, as well as Japanese history, Japanese and Chinese literature and cultural study are well-known in and out of Japan.

There are four departments at the university: literature, economics, law and Shinto studies. There are also graduate programmes in literature, law and economics and a Shinto Studies Graduate Programme.

There are two campuses the Shibuya campus and the Tama Plaza. The Kokugakuin University Museum is found on the Shibuya campus whihc holds an extensive collection of historical and archeological artefacts. The Tama Plaza campus has a number of sports facilities including a baseball pitch and tennis courts.
