About The University of Tennessee-Knoxville
Founded in 1794, the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT) is the state’s research-extensive, land-grant institution. UT is big on tradition and proud of its humble beginnings as the first public university chartered west of the Appalachian Divide. The university provides comprehensive support to help students achieve their academic goals and engage in campus life. Students can choose from 14 residence halls on campus and 18 living and learning communities. A new intramural recreation complex, student health building and residence hall have opened in the past several years, along with new facilities for engineering, business, and music programmes. The first phase of a new state-of-the-art student union will open this year. Through UT’s management partnership with Oak Ridge National Laboratory, students have unprecedented opportunities for hands-on work and research beside the world’s most gifted scientists.
