About Conservatoire for Dance and Drama

The Conservatoire for Dance and Drama is comprised of six member schools which focus on specialist education and vocational training in the performing arts. The schools are located in three of England’s bustling and vibrant cities: London, Bristol and Leeds. The six schools are: Bristol Old Vic Theatre School, Central School of Ballet, London Contemporary Dance School, National Centre for Circus Arts, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, and Rambert School.

The school prides itself on offering an immersive experience of training and access to the performing arts industries. Registered with the Office for Students, students of the Conservatoire can apply for government grants and loans, which is not consistent across all performing arts schools.

Across the six schools, 29 courses are offered to students, from scenic art to professional acting to circus arts in levels from foundation degree, bachelor degree, postgraduate diploma and taught master's degrees.

Students usually have around 35 hours per week contact hours with lecturers, choreographers and students, where they learn through practical study. Most of this time is spent in technique classes, used to improve student’s skill sets.

The Conservatoire focuses on preparing students for the arts industry, and assists its students in finding work after their training. Throughout their studies, students are encouraged to form links with industry and sometimes find placements to prepare themselves. The Conservatoire offers its students practical skill classes, in areas such as taxation and business plan writing, so that they are well-equipped for the world of work.

The Conservatoire offers non-degree classes and activities for children and adults in the community, including weekly classes, summer schools and the Centre for Advanced Training.

Notable alumni include actors Olivia Colman, Naomi Harris and Daniel-Day Lewis.
