About Gazi University
Gazi University, based in Ankara – the capital of Turkey – was established in 1926 as a teacher training institute.
It wasn’t until 1982 that it merged with the Bolu Academy of Engineering and Architecture, Ankara Academy of Economics and Commercial Sciences, the Ankara College of Technical Careers, the Ankara Girls' College of Technical Careers, and the Ankara State Academy of Engineering and Architecture to become the large university it is today.
The university now consists of 21 different faculties, 4 schools, 52 research centres and 7 graduate institutes.
Gazi University has a variety of campuses within Ankara; Beşevler, Emek, Maltepe, Gölbaşı, Çubuk, Ostim and Polatlı. All campuses are inside the city, which makes it a go to for students. Housing is aplenty, as well as shopping, sports tournaments, theatre productions and festivals.
There is a Technopark located in Gölbaşı campus, which was established in 2007, and is known for providing high quality and cost-effective services to technology-based companies within Turkey.
Gazi University library has 150,000 books, 62,000 bound periodicals, and 10,000 theses, and are offered predominantly in Turkish, English and German.
The Beşevler campus offers large sports facilities including student use of the Olympic pool. Moreover every summer, Gazi University organises a free summer festival for students with a host of popular singers, groups and activities for four days.
The third face transplant to ever take place in Turkey was performed at Gazi University hospital led by a surgeon called Dr. Selahattin Özmen.
