About Central European University
Central European University (CEU) is an English-language university based in Vienna founded in 1991 by a group of visionary intellectuals – most of them prominent members of the anti-totalitarian democratic opposition.
Accredited in the United States and Hungary, the CEU offers degrees in the social sciences, humanities, law, public policy, business management, environmental science, and mathematics. It is considered to be an important university in Central Europe for social sciences and humanities.
Located in the heart of Central Europe, students can enjoy historical, cultural, and social diversity within a thriving capital. CEU occupies several buildings in a vibrant downtown neighbourhood just a few minutes from the Danube.
CEU students come from over 100 countries across five continents meaning that there is no predominant national majority. This unique characteristic of the university is one of the most appealing aspects of student life.
The library at CEU has an impressive on-site and digital collection particularly in the fields of social sciences and humanities. The library contains more than 255,000 documents in various formats and includes access to a range of academic databases.
Annual events include the universities Autumn Sports Day, International Cultural Festival, Valentine's Day Ice Skating Party and the Danube Regatta.
CEU also actively encourages and supports students offering a variety of interests and activities from chess and basketball to film and literature.
Notable alumni include Srđan Cvijić, a Serbian political scientist, Ilir Dugoolli, the Ambassador of the Republic of Kosovo to Norway, and József Berényi, Chairman of the Party of the Hungarian Coalition.
