Research resources

五月 4, 2017

The news story “Universities build up their youth teams” (News, 27 April) explored some of the benefits of involving undergraduates in research projects.

But it overlooked an additional motivation for involving undergraduates in research: with no PhD funding worth mentioning outside the centres for doctoral training facilities, it’s sometimes the only way to get junior researchers to work with. Undergraduate and master’s level projects have formed a core part of several of my recent conference and journal papers.

Doing this is good for students (particularly the ones who got to present or co-present our work internationally), and good for me as well.
