Professor Dr. Wilert Puriwat, Acting President of Chulalongkorn University, has set forth his efforts to meet society’s AI-related needs, with the aim of positioning Chula as Thailand’s premier AI university and the hub for artificial intelligence in Southeast Asia.
In this initiative, Prof. Dr. Parichart Sthapitanonda, Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs, Communication, and Alumni Relations, along with Asst. Prof. Dr. Supachai Chuenjitwongsa, and Dr. Vorapol Jaroonvanichkul, Acting Assistant to the President, are collaborating with international AI experts from various faculties including Engineering, Arts, Medicine, Law, Science, and Economics. They are preparing to drive AI University policy across multiple dimensions, such as AI Foundation and Technology, AI Education, AI Solution, and AI Industry Impact and Ethics, AI Governance, AI in Business and Economics, as well as setting international AI alliance strategies.

“The highlight of accelerating the establishment of the Chulalongkorn AI Institute is to focus on mechanisms that meet local needs in accordance with international standards. We aim to encourage student participation in AI development in communication, investing in the Large Language Model (LLM) in education which encompasses all aspects of higher education knowledge and a system used to teach English to Thai people. This will position Chula as an AI University with high expertise, capable of responding to society’s needs, and reinforcing our role as the AI Hub of the ASEAN region” Prof. Dr. Wilert emphasized.

On this, Prof. Dr. Parichat added, “Chulalongkorn University is well-prepared, with a team of AI experts who are recognized both nationally and internationally. Led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Proadpran Punyabukkana, this team, alongside experts from various fields, such as Asst. Prof. Dr. Ekapol Chuangsuwanich, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Attapol Thamrongrattanarit, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Peerapon Vateekul, Asst. Prof. Dr. Natawut Nupairoj, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Atiwong Suchato, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Peerapat Chokesuwattanaskul, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Solaphat Hemrungrojn, Dr. Sira Sriswasdi, Asst. Prof. Dr. Dittaya Wanvarie, Assoc. Prof.Voraprapa Nakavachara, and so on. They will deliver clear results within the next two months preparing for the profound benefits of Thailand’s AI development on the international arena.”
