关于 Nueva Granada Military University
The Nueva Granada Military University, known in Spanish as Universidad Militar Nueva Granada and locally as UMNG, is a public, self-funded university based in Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia.
The roots of the university can be traced back to 1962 when the Military School of Officers, or the Escuela Militar de Cadetes began offering civil engineering, economics and law programmes. Some 16 years later, the school of medicine and health sciences was founded, beginning its labor in the first semester of 1979. It was established as a university under the name of Universidad Militar Nueva Granada in 1982.
The university has eight faculties, and has two campuses in the Colombian capital. In 2005 it acquired 75.5 hectares of land in Cajicá - a town of about 60,000 people in the department of Cundinamarca, some 39 km (or 24 miles) north of the capital. It is to become one of the largest campuses in Latin America, and, once complete, will be used to house a range of new facilities for the university, including laboratories, auditoriums, cafeterias, sports courts and a swimming pool.
The university has a very highly respected faculty of distance studies, which offers courses in business administration, public accounting, international relations, civil engineering and industrial engineering to distance learners and part-time students.
The motto of the Nueva Granada Military University is "patriae et familiae", which translates to English as "science, country, family". Its colours, which are worn by the institution's sporting teams, are yellow, red and blue.
