Which Diana Warwick were you reporting on last week ("Populist Labour swells HE ranks", THES, October 1) in raptures over the prime minister's announcement of another expansion of higher education numbers?
Was it the Diana Warwick who is chief executive of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals and who presumably is required to speak for and represent all of its members? Or was it the Diana Warwick recently appointed a Labour working peer by the prime minister?
And why were both silent on the offensive references in the prime minister's speech to certain unnamed university leaders?
If you were to run a competition on the least likely headline, would the winner not be "Warwick denounces prime minister"?
