FURTHER to your article on the offshoots of American universities in Rome, I would like to clarify the role of The Association of American College and University Programs in Italy. Founded in Rome in 1978, the AACUPI comprises 65 institutions. AACUPI is recognised both by the Italian government and by United States and Canadian authorities, as a unified voice for fully-accredited US and Canadian institutions that run programmes of study for their students in Italy.
Long-standing, legitimate and full-accredited US and Canadian institutions belonging to AACUPI operate within the Italian legal and fiscal system. In its history, AACUPI has even sponsored in the Italian parliament and seen converted into law, legal and fiscal provisions for private and public foreign academic institutions in the country. Ignoring the Italian academic, legal and fiscal fabric would be uncivilised, immoral and illegal. AACUPI members act responsibly in staying abreast of legal and fiscal status here and administrative issues that face us daily.
Furthermore, AACUPI has no knowledge of any arrangements non-AACUPI institutions may have made with their employers.
