Your photograph, "Wary allies: Molotov meets Churchill and Eden in London (1942)", shown with John Erickson's penetrating review (THES, November 22) of Oleg Rzheshevsky's War and Diplomacy, reveals your own wariness of exposing no more than the sleeve and toe-cap (?) of Viacheslav Molotov to public view. For the trimly bearded, enigmatic Russian rubbing shoulders with Churchill in the photograph is not Molotov but Ivan Maisky, Soviet ambassador to the United Kingdom, 1932-1943.
